National Theatre Wales

Located Residencies and Emerging Producers

National Theatre Wales was set up in 2010 and is recognised for its innovative, high quality work which often takes place in site-specific settings across Wales. It collaborates with artists, audiences, communities and companies to create theatre in the English language, rooted in Wales and with an international reach. We first supported National Theatre Wales in 2011, a project which  helped artists collaborate and develop work online, and the company hosted a Weston Jerwood Creative Bursary placement in 2016.

Addressing many practical challenges facing artists working in rural Wales, National Theatre Wales’ new Creative Development Framework will promote sustainable artists’ lives across Wales providing professional development and opportunities to make new work and share it with audiences and communities. Our support is for a strand of this programme which will support artists alongside producers.

Our support will enable seven Located Residencies to take place in specific locations in 2018, providing artists the time and support to develop new ideas which may allow them to push artistic boundaries and/or find a departure from their current practice whilst embedded in landscape or community. Two Emerging Producers will work on and run the residencies, receiving structured professional development support throughout.

Both the Located Residencies and Emerging Producers will be recruited through open call in September 2017.
