The Jerwood Painting Fellowships promote and support emerging painters. Launched in 2010 as an open submission programme, the Fellowships provide three artists each year with:
- a year long period of tailored mentoring support for both critical practice and broader professional development
- a bursary of £10,000
- a group exhibition within Jerwood Visual Arts, curated and supported by the mentors.
This new programme is targeted at artists who are within five years graduating of beginning their practice and is intended to support a transformative period of artistic practice and professional.
The inaugural 2010/11 Jerwood Painting Fellows were Clare Mitten, Cara Nahaul and Corinna Till.
They were selected and supported by mentors Paul Bonaventura, curator, writer and Senior Research Fellow in Fine Art Studies at the University of Oxford, Chantal Joffe, artist and Stephen Farthing RA, painter and Rootstein Hopkins Research Chair of Drawing at the University of the Arts, London.
