The Roundhouse: Associate Artist Programme

This scheme launches for the first time in 2011, bringing together the Roundhouse, Circus Space and Jackson’s Lane to provide a unique offer of space, support and specialist expertise for the development of an emerging circus company across the period of a year.

Selected from a long-list of 13 targeted nominations by industry professionals, Collectif and Then… are a London based circus company who graduated from Circus Space in 2009. Specialising in aerial work and in particular the double cloud swing, Lucie N’Duhirahe and Francesca Hyde set up Collectif and Then… on the back of a frustration with what they perceived as a lack of multi-disciplinary performance and original aerial work around them. Since graduating they have created simple, beautiful work which has been ambitious in its scope and successful in its aims to incorporate multi-disciplinary forms. Pieces have included Crece at Teatro Circo Price (Madrid), Like the rain when it stops at Jacksons Lane, La Caserne as part of the International Capital World Circus Festival 2010 (Geneva), Instants at the Royal Opera House and Message Pour Dire aboard their own canal boat on the French canals.

They will receive rehearsal space and technical support at all three venues, as well as performance and sharing opportunities. In addition the company will have an office base at Circus Space across the year, and be supported with mentoring from each of the project partners and external mentors where appropriate.

In January 2012 the company started to work intensively on developing Lost Post; a new show, inspired by an extract from Jonathan Safran Froer's Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, to premiere at CircusFest 2012.

This Associate Artist Programme forms part of a broader ambition of each organisation to lead and develop a better resourced ecology for the development of high quality circus performance work.

Collectif and Then... Lost Post

CircusFest 2012

30 March - 1 April 2012

A brand new circus show from emerging circus company Collectif and then... fusing contemporary movement with inventive aerial skills

Inspired by an extract from Jonathan Safran Foer’s Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, in which the islands of New York drift apart and separate friends, families and lovers, the show explores what happens when communication reaches breaking point. The performers play with adhoc ways of communicating, old and new: paper planes, carrier pigeons, smoke signals, cup and string...
