Jerwood Makers Open

Jerwood Makers Open is a yearly open submission, commission opportunity for emerging applied artists. It offers significant awards of £7,500 each to five makers each year to create new works, exhibited as part of the Jerwood Visual Arts programme. The initiative seeks to provide an opportunity for makers in the early stages of their careers to develop their creative ideas independently of specific commissioning structures.

The artists selected for the 2013 Jerwood Makers Open are: conceptual maker Maisie Broadhead, jeweller Linda Brothwell, ceramicist Adam Buick, paper artist Nahoko Kojima and textile artist Roanna Wells.

These five artists were selected from over 200 UK-wide applications, by an independent panel comprising internationally acclaimed designer Edward Barber, Director of Stanley Picker Gallery David Falkner, and artist and editor Bonnie Kemske.

The completed commissions will be presented for the first time in an exhibition at JVA at Jerwood Space, London from 10 July to 25 August 2013, before touring the UK.
