Jerwood Charitable Foundation

We are an independent grant-making foundation with a particular focus on supporting emerging artists to develop and grow through providing targeted professional development opportunities across artforms. We also seek strategic opportunities to advance sector or artform knowledge around tangible issues.

A UK registered charity, the Jerwood Charitable Foundation (JCF) was founded in 1999 by the Jerwood Foundation under the directorship of Roanne Dods. In 2005, the Jerwood Foundation gifted an endowment of £25million to JCF, establishing it as an independent charity to deliver and develop Jerwood's revenue activity in the arts. Our current Director, Shonagh Manson, took on the role in April 2009.

Jerwood Family

As well as funding for projects available through the Jerwood Charitable Foundation, the broader Jerwood family of organisations offers support for the arts in other significant ways.

The Jerwood Foundation makes strategic capital grants. It was founded in 1977 by its Chairman Alan Grieve for John Jerwood, an international businessman and philanthropist. The Jerwood Foundation built and established Jerwood Space in 1998, and opened the Jerwood Gallery in Hastings in 2012. www.jerwoodfoundation.org

Jerwood Space is recognised as one of the best rehearsal facilities in the UK for theatre and dance. Based on a not-for-profit model, Jerwood Space offers low-cost, high quality rehearsal space to emerging or small scale companies subsidised through its work with commercial or established performing companies. It also provides spaces for hire including meeting rooms, a café and galleries, which also host our Jerwood Visual Arts programme. www.jerwoodspace.co.uk

The Jerwood Gallery opened in Hastings in 2012. As well as displaying the Jerwood Art Collection of 20th and 21st British art in its permanent galleries, the Jerwood Gallery’s receiving spaces develop and host temporary exhibitions, including work from our Jerwood Visual Arts programme. www.jerwoodgallery.com
