FEATURES

DCMS Jerwood Creative Bursaries

DCMS Jerwood Creative Bursaries are intended to create opportunities for talented graduates to start their careers in the arts. They are aimed specifically at those whose circumstances mean they cannot afford to pay for training or whose background and family circumstances might make it difficult for them to take up unpaid internships.

Running as a pilot programme across a two year period until March 2012, the Scheme will enable talented graduates to gain high-quality work experience in their first year after university.  A series of selected arts organisations will be invited to apply to host a bursary placement across a range of roles in the arts; from directors, actors, musicians and artists to front of house, back stage and arts administration roles. Each of the host organisations will also receive a grant to support their involvement in the Scheme.

The length of placements will be flexible, ranging from 6-12 months, full and part-time, and the Scheme will aim to provide 40 bursaries in this pilot period. Successful bursary recipients will each receive a salary of £15,000 per annum pro rata. Alongside this support, bursary recipients are assigned a mentor and encouraged to take part in structured networking opportunities throughout their placement.
